In the early days, there was such a legend that the inventor of the dice was Cao Zhi, a writer of the Three Kingdoms period. It was originally used as a tool for divination, and later it evolved into a game prop for the concubines of the harem, such as throwing dice, betting on wine, silk, sachets and other items.

However, after continuous archaeology and research by archaeologists, they also discovered the existence of dice in the tombs in Qingzhou, Shandong, so they overturned this legend and proved that the inventor of the dice was not Cao Zhi.
However, the real dice produced in China were unearthed in the tomb of Qin Shi Huang. It is a dice with 14 and 18 sides, and it depicts Chinese characters. After the Qin and Han dynasties, with the cultural exchanges between countries, the dice was also combined with Chinese and Western, and it became the common dice we have today. It looks like it has points on it.
The different colors on the dice today also stem from a legend. According to legend, one day Tang Xuanzong and Yang Guifei were playing dice in the changing palace. Tang Xuanzong was at a disadvantage, and only four points could turn the situation around. An anxious Tang Xuanzong shouted “four o’clock, four o’clock” while watching the dice turn, and the result turned out to be four. In this way, Tang Xuanzong was happy and sent someone to announce the world, allowing red on the dice.
